McLaren reveal 60th anniversary-inspired F1 contender: MCL-60
13th February 2023McLaren Racing revealed their 2023 contender; the MCL60, at their launch event in the McLaren Technology Centre, showcasing an slight evolution of the 2022 contender.
The 2023 season marks a special anniversary for the Woking-based outfit as they embark on their 60th season since their founder Bruce McLaren founded the racing outfit. As a result of the anniversary, the team branded their lastest challenger; the MCL60, to celebrate the occassion.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown and, new Team Principle, Andrea Stella were on hand to present McLaren’s 2023 car alongside their drivers Lando Norris and, F3 and F2 world champion, Oscar Piastri.
The car itself is an evolution of the 2022 contender to satisfy the newest set of technical regulations, but it maintains its iconic colour scheme with a mix of papaya orange, black and blue.

With their latest car, McLaren have followed a similar evolution to the sidepod concept to those around them – who have revealed their 2023 challengers – in a bid to get the underfloor to work more efficiently. As a result of the new ground-effect regulations, introduced in 2022, the teams are looking to improve on this area to gain more lap time out on track.
McLaren will be hoping their new driver line-up which sees Piastri coming in partner up with Norris, replacing Daniel Ricciardo for 2023, will prevent the team from their slide down the table. In 2020, the team secured third place in the constructors but soon dropped to fifth in 2022 – behind Alpine who finished fourth in the constructors.
The Woking-based outfit will give the car a run at Bahrain’s pre-season testing on February 23-25, before they start the season officially, a week later at the same venue.
