Oliver Solberg secures WRC2 victory in Rally Sweden
13th February 2023 0 By Kamron KentOliver Solberg secured his maiden WRC2 win, in his first points scoring event of the 2023 season, as the Swede produced a flawless drive on Sunday to win Rally Sweden on home soil.
Benefitting from the misfortunes of others, Solberg dominated the Swedish event and spent the most of Saturday defending his rally lead with flawless stages. Going into the final day with a 51.6 second buffer to, second-placed, Ole Christian Veily.
With an error-free drive on Sunday, the Swedish driver managed to steer his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 to victory by 42.3 seconds over Veiby.
Despite the conservative stance, Solberg still went all-out on the Wolf Power Stage securing the stage win by 0.5 seconds over Lindholm – taking home maximum points on the final run.
Solberg’s Rally Sweden rival, Veiby, in his Volkwagen Polo, had to settle for second-place as he had last season while Sami Paiari – in his own Fabia – rounded out the top three.
In Rally Sweden, Georg Linnamae slid his Hyundai i20 N Rally2 car to fourth place, one-minute off a podium-awarding position as Toksport’s Marco Bulacia rounded out the top five, 20.4 seconds further behind.
As a result, in addition to Solberg’s first point-scoring event, the Swede is now tied first place in the WRC2 drivers standings with 28 points to their names.
