Haas F1 reveal VF-23 to kick off car launch season
31st January 2023The Haas F1 team have officially got the off-season car launches underway after they revealed their 2023 livery on social media on Tuesday.
While it is not the official car launch, MoneyGram Haas F1 are the first team of the grid to do so. In doing so, they provide fans an early look into what they can expect from the season ahead.
The new design was shared amongst the teams social media account, on Tuesday, with a series of digital renders to showcase their fresh start in 2023.
The first reveal kicks off a very busy three weeks in which the remaining nine teams will unveil their 2023 championship contenders, with car launches or digital renders, ahead of the Pre-Season test at Bahrain between February 23 to February 25.
The design
The car design primarily takes on a bold look with black taking over the usual white design we have been accustomed too in recent seasons, but it still blends the chassis with the colours of red and white.
From the side profile, the MoneyGram logo which is situated on the engine cover takes the centerpiece contrasting against the black bodywork. Despite the title sponsor catching the eye, Haas remains ever-present on the sidepods of the VF-23.
Haas’ 2023 championship contender takes on a relatively modern look, alongside its colour scheme, which plays homage to F1’s latest regulations that came into force last season.
The driver pairing
While the teams new title sponsorship with MoneyGram filling the whole left by Uralkali’s departure (following the war in Ukraine), the team will take on a new – returning – driver for their 2023 campaign.
Nico Hulkenberg is set to join alongside Kevin Magnussen this season, after Mick Schumacher left at the end of last season, in a bid to build upon the team’s improved performances in 2022.
Despite a very poor season in 2021, when the team failed to score a single point, Magnussen performed valiantly scoring 25 points across the season to help the team secure eighth in the constructors championship.
Hulkenberg will join the team as a consistent points scorer, something the team needs, to help climb back up the ranks. The 2022 season was the only year of which Hulkenberg failed to secure a single point in his F1 career when he was subbed in for the COVID-hit Sebastian Vettel, at Aston Martin.
However, the duo will be an interesting pairing to watch in 2023 following previous heated meetings in the past such as Magnussen’s infamous ‘suck my b***s’ comment.
The team is expected to give the VF-23 a shakedown on February 11, at Great Britain’s Silverstone Circuit, ahead of pre-season testing which will span from February 23 to February 25.
