Japan will host the penultimate round of the championship, race seven of eight, this weekend, ahead of the WEC season finale, 8 Hours of Bahrain, in November.
It’s also a milestone race for the sport as it marks the 100th race in its history, since it began back in 2012 with the 12 Hours of Sebring.
However, the championship is coming to a head with Ferrari leading the manufacturer standings, ahead of Porsche and Cadillac.
The Prancing Horse has had a dominating season, accumulating 203 points across the last six races. In total, it means the Italian team lead the championship by 65 points over Porsche.
Toyota has endured a painful season so far and arrives home fourth in the team standings, 35 points behind third-place Cadillac. However, the home heroes have enjoyed success at their Fuji Speedway circuit, claiming nine of the 11 races held to date.
