Four hours have been completed at the iconic Circuit la Sarthe, and the race lead has changed multiple times over the short time of racing. Cadillac, in their first Le Mans pole position, led the action but were quickly overtaken by the #5 Porsche into the first Mulsanne chicane.
As the race settled down into race management, Paul di Resta, Peugeot, skipped across the gravel at Porsche curve and slapped into the barrier. His car lost its engine cover and rear wing in the process. However, the Briton was able to return to the pits for repairs.
After two hours, the first driver changes came into play as the leading Porsche swapped drivers, followed by the #51 Ferrari.
30 minutes later, the #50 Ferrari took the lead of the race as they overtook the leading Porsche on the run down towards Indianapolis. By the time they hit the corner, the Ferrari was in the lead.
A slow zone was later introduced in the race after the #88 LMGT3 Ford Mustang, Proton Competition, lost control at Tertre Rouge and found the tyre barrier. The #25 LMP2 Algarve Pro Racing suffered damage to its front bumper, which resulted in the first full-course yellow of the race.
Porsche’s #5 car, which had led the race, was given a drive-through penalty – as was the #24 LMP2 of Nielsen Racing – for a slow zone infraction.
As the race crossed over into the four-hour mark, Peugoet’s #94 car was leading the race but they pitted as the clock ticked down and gave the lead to the #50 Ferrari.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
