All 10 F1 teams to support F1 Academy drivers
26th July 2023All 10 Formula 1 teams are expected to take on one F1 Academy driver who will represent the team with their livery in the 2024 season.
It is expected that all 10 F1 teams will take an F1 Academy driver under their wing ahead of the 2024 season, and the nominated driver will use their team’s livery on their 2024 championship machinery.
Following the agreement with the current F1 teams, 10 of 15 drivers will be driving with an F1 liveried racing car in the 2024 season. The five drivers who are not chosen will be supported by other partners and the announcement of those partners is expected to come at a later date.
No information has been reported to state who the 10 drivers will be or the teams they will represent, but it is told the F1 teams will confirm this at a later date.
On the announcement, Managing Director of F1 Academy, Susie Wolff said:
“First and foremost, I want to thank the Formula 1 teams for their support and vision as we embark on this journey together.
“This landmark moment not only demonstrates the depth of support for F1 Academy from across the F1 community but will inspire a whole generation of young girls to realise the opportunities both on and off track in motorsport.
“As we join the F1 calendar for next year and host F1 Academy Discover Your Drive events in the lead-up to our races, I am confident that we will have a positive impact across our sport in the long term.”
In its inaugural season, the F1 Academy has five teams in its roster: ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, MP Motorsport, PREMA Racing and Rodin Carlin, who all have three cars and three drivers inside their 2023 line-up.
The women-only series made its debut in Austria for its inaugural season. Prema Racing’s Marta García secured two of three race victories (race one and race three) with MP Motorsport’s Amna Al Qubaisi winning the second race.
However, for 2024, F1 Academy will join the calendar as a supporting category alongside the likes of Formula 2 and Formula 3.
F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali complimented the work of those involved with F1 Academy’s creation, he said:
“We created F1 Academy to bring about real and lasting change to ensure young female talent have the right system in place to follow and achieve their dreams.
“Today is a very important moment as it shows the impact the project is having and the support it is receiving from across the F1 community. Susie, the teams, and everyone involved are working tirelessly to ensure we go from strength to strength and continue to deliver on the important objective we have set out together.
“In 2024 the F1 Academy will join our race calendar, raising the awareness and profile of the series globally and to have the F1 liveries on the grid will be something very special.”
F1 Academy heads to the Circuit Paul Ricard, in Le Castellet, for its penultimate round in the south of France this weekend which will mark round six of seven.
Heading into the race weekend, García leads the driver’s championship with 190 points. Qubaisi and Lena Buhler (ART Grand Prix) round out the top three in second and third respectively, with 36 points separating Garcia and Qubaisi.
