Click2Drive Bristol Street Motor’s Alice Powell withstood the pressure from Jenner Racing’s championship leader, Jamie Chadwick, to secure her first win of the season.

How the race unfolded…

As the pack trundled around the Hungarian Hungaroring, Quantfury’s Nerea Marti lost rear-tyre grip into turn 10. The Spaniash driver was able to quickly regain control of her car as she rolled onto the grass. Fortunately Garcia was .

At the end of the second formation lap, Click2Drive Bristol Street Motor’s Alice Powell got the race underway with a rolling start once the safety car peeled into the pit lane.

It was relatively well behaved racing until the pack arrived at turn seven as the Quantfury temmates, of Belen Garcia and Marti, came together which forced Marti into a spin. Fortunately, Marti was able to continue on albeit at the back of the pack.

After an steady first lap, Sirin Racing’s Beitske Visser put up a worthy fight to try and snatch the lead away as the front-two drivers raced into turn three, a lap later.

In the laps which Powell and Visser fought for the race lead, it allowed the runaway championship leader, Jamie Chadwick (Jenner Racing), to join the fight for the race win. With just over 17 minutes left on the clock, a second separated the top three drivers while P4 remained four seconds behind the leader.

On lap 10, Chadwick finally found a way past Visser into turn one as the two-time W Series champion broke late into the first corner. While the fight continued on for a handful of corners later, until Visser admitted defeat, Powell extended her race lead to a second over Chadwick.

The yellow flag was flown in at turn nine, as the W Series Academy’s rookie driver Bianca Bustamante spun out and hit the barrier on the exit of turn nine. Fortunately, the Academy driver was able to get going again but the suspension damage meant she had to pull her car to the pit lane to retire.

However, the Philippines driver came to a stop at the pit entry lane. This soon brought the safety car out, at the end of lap 11, as the Marshals worked to clear the stranded car from the pit lane.

At the end of lap 13, the safety car peeled back into the pit lane to get the race going once again. Powell bolted away early as she entered the penultimate corner to get back up to racing speed. Four minutes remained on the clock.

With 90 seconds left on the clock, Chadwick pushed impressively as she cut down the gap to less than half a second. However, with a late mistake from the reigning world champion, it provided Powell with enough breathing room for an additional lap.

Despite Chadwick’s best efforts, she couldn’t find a way past Powell to maintain her winning streak as the Bristol Motors driver secured her first win of the season.
