W Series French GP: Jamie Chadwick makes it five of five

W Series French GP: Jamie Chadwick makes it five of five

Jenner Racing’s Jamie Chadwick extended her championship lead, continuing her winning streak, with yet another win at France’s Paul Ricard Circuit, ahead of the French Grand Prix.

How the race went…

It was a great start from the pole sitter, Visser, and Jenner Racing’s championship leader Jamie Chadwick who moved up to P2 as Marti had a poor getaway off the line. However, it wasn’t long before the lead changed hands.

Chadwick went around the outside of Visser, into turn three, and the reigning world champion moved up into P1 as the pack curled around turn four.

The Safety Car was quickly deployed after Scuderia W’s Abbie Eaton suffered suspension damage when she made contact with CortDAO’s Marta Garcia, as the lights went out. The Scuderia was launched up into the air, after the contact, and the Briton pulled to the side of the track to retire when the car crashed back down.

Fortunately, Eaton was okay after the incident. Concerns rose as she spent a long time recovering from a broken back from her incident in the United States, last season.

With 21 minutes left on the clock, the safety car was recalled back into the pit lane. The new race leader made her getaway very early on, as the pack circled around turn 11 of 15. As Chadwick arrived at turn one, there was nearly a one-second gap between the race leader and Visser.

However, the race was neutralised – once again – as safety car was deployed, on the same lap it restarted. This came after Jenner’s Chloe Chamber’s collided into the side of Sirin Racing’s Emely De Heus, at turn three.

De Heus was able to get going again while Chambers wasn’t, this forced the Jenner driver to retire from the race. De Heus was soon given 10-second stop/go penalty for causing a penalty.

With just under 15 minutes left to go, the safety car returned to the pit lane. However, when the leader returned to racing speed, Visser was well prepared and managed to remain on the gearbox of the Jenner car.

As a result, Visser made a move into turn one to steal away the race lead from Chadwick. But, the Briton knew it was coming, she quickly retaliated and regained the lead a couple of corners later.

After one full – racing – lap, Chadwick managed to pull away a 1.5 second gap from herself to Visser, in P2.

However, the pole sitter soon found herself down in fourth place after Quantfury’s Belen Garcia (P2) and Nerea Marti (P3) managed to drop the Dutch driver out of the podium positions.

By the end of the race, Chadwick commanded the race from start to finish as she extended her lead by two-seconds ahead of Quantfury’s Garcia and Marti who finished off the podium positions.

Podium:

  1. Jamie Chadwick, Jenner Racing
  2. Belen Garcia, Quantfury
  3. Nerea Marti, Quantfury
