Alpine showcase variants of 2023 contender: A523
16th February 2023Alpine closed down the Formula 1 2023 Car Launch season showcasing both of their blue and pink variants, similar to what they ran last season.
After an feature, advertising the Alpine range, the French manufacturer finally revealed their 2023 championship contender.
Alpine’s team principle, Otmar Szafnauer was present at the launch to discuss the two variations of Alpine’s challenger, of which two were presented one in Alpine blue and the other in BWT pink.
Last season, the French team did a similar action as they raced the pink variant of their 2022 challenger in both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia fixtures before racing the blue variant for the remainder of the season.
Discussing at the launch, Szafnauer said:
“You’ll see this [Pink Variant] at the beginning but the Alpine blue will be our predominate racer. Although we’ll see pink, we’ll also see blue.”
The team spent the second half of the season fighting for fourth place against McLaren before the secured the ‘best of the rest’ title on the last race of the season, only being the Woking-based team by 14 points.
As such, the team have seen the car undergo a number of changes in a bid to bolster their position in the constructors championships such as the suspension, front and back, the engine cooling etc.
Alpine are also going to run a all-French line-up with Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly at the helm of their respective vehicles. Formula 2 racer Jack Doohan will also be the team’s reserve driver after their previous reserve driver, Oscar Piastri, moved to McLaren for the upcoming season.
After the reveal of the A523, it rounds out the car launch season and the next stop is set on Bahrain as pre-season testing gets underway next week on February 23, a week before the season starts at the same venue.
