Mercedes unveil W14 as it returns to the black livery
15th February 2023Mercedes have revealed their 2023 championship contender, the W14, as the car returns to an iconic look with it’s all-black livery.
Mercedes will be hoping they have ironed out the issues that hindered their 2022 season, in the hope they can return to the front of the field in 2023.
The Silver Arrows finished the 2022 season third in the constructors championship with 515 points to their name, behind both Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari who finished P1 and P2 respectively. Across the season, Mercedes only managed to secure one win, at the hands of George Russell, in Brazil.
Team Principle, Toto Wolf, said:
“Our hopes and expectations are always to be capable of fighting for a World Championship. However, our competitors were very strong last year, and we are playing catch-up.
“Racing at the front requires resilience, teamwork, and determination. We face up to every challenge, we put the Team first, and we will leave no stone unturned in the chase for every millisecond. This year, we are going all in to get back in front.”
Wolf and the team’s driver line-up: Lewis Hamilton and Russell, alongside new reserve driver, Mick Schumacher, were all on hand to present the teams latest creation.

The car returned to its former colour, in 2020 and 2021, with an all-black colour scheme. The team previously ran the colour as a sign of diversity and equality but the new colour scheme plays homage to Mercedes’ racing heritage – as well as a potential way to shred weight.
In the early days, Mercedes ran with a white livery but the car was overweight and the paint was quickly stripped down to the metal – prompting its nickname: the Silver Arrows.
The team will give the car a shakedown around the Silverstone circuit, later on today, before they head off to Bahrain for the pre-season test and start of the 2023 season.
That’s all for the article; Mercedes unveil W14 as it returns to the black livery
