Ott Tanak not scoring manufacturer points for remaining 2025 WRC season
24th September 2025Hyundai has confirmed Ott Tänak will not be scoring manufacturer points for the final rounds of the 2025 World Rally Championship, starting with the Central European Rally.

On Tuesday, it was quickly highlighted that Tänak was not nominated to score manufacturer championship points in the upcoming CER rally, after it was published on the organiser’s entry list.
He will join Toyota Takamoto Katsuta as the second Rally1 contender to race without scoring manufacturer points.
The move has been deemed a strategic decision to allow Tanak to take full advantage of the sporting regulations. The team states it is to ensure that Tänak and his co-driver Martin Järveoja, have the best chance at the title.
“For the final three rounds of the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship season, Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team will only nominate Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux for manufacturers’ points,” Hyundai stated.
“This strategic decision allows Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja to compete without manufacturer nomination and by taking full advantage of the sporting regulations, the team is ensuring Tänak and Järveoja are in the strongest possible position to continue their fight for the drivers’ and co-drivers’ titles.”
As it currently stands in the WRC sporting regulations, nominated drivers must use a pool of two homologated engines across the 14-round season. Using an extra engine will force the driver to serve a five-minute time penalty at the next rally.
However, Tänak’s removal from scoring manufacturer points means that the Estonian can be given a fresh power unit for the remaining rallies in the season, under the expectation that he will not be given a penalty.
This is due to engines being allocated to chassis names rather than driver names.
It follows his engine failure at the recent Rally Chile Bio Bio, where he suffered a mechanical retirement when he was leading on the Friday afternoon.
For the remainder of the weekend, Tänak was given an already-troubled engine, which he ran a couple of stages on Saturday before returning to the service park to go on the attack on Super Sunday.
Following the sole point he picked up at Rally Chile means that Tänak sits fourth in the drivers’ championship, Hyundai’s leading driver, 43 points behind Toyota’s championship leader, Sebastien Ogier.
