Elfyn Evans leads Rally Chile after Saturday morning
13th September 2025Toyota’s Elfyn Evans has taken the lead of the World Rally Championship’s Rally Chile after a wet start to the event’s second day, as Toyota occupy 1-2 overall.

The current championship leader, Evans, started the second day of running in Chile down in fifth, 13.1 seconds adrift of Hyundai’s then-rally leader Adrien Fourmaux. However, after the morning’s three-stage loop, the Welshman has jumped up the order to first.
His teammate, and eight-time world champion, Sebastien Ogier, who rued that he was chasing a ninth world title last time out in Paraguay, now occupies second place, 5.6s adrift of the championship leader.
Conditions were treacherous on the first stage of the morning, with heavy rain present in the middle and end sections of the Pelún 1 stage.
Hyundai’s Ott Tanak, returning after engine failure on Friday, put in the best times of the morning’s two tests despite being first on the road after his retirement. However, the Estonian returned to the service park after that to retire, and reportedly save his engine and tires ahead of Super Sunday.
There was some early drama from M-Sport Ford as they lost two cars in the morning’s opening test. Chile’s own Alberto Heller and Irishman Joshua McErlean were forced to stop out on stage in the opening kilometres with power problems.
Heller was seen trying to turn the car back over, near the start of the stage, around 800m, while McErlean managed to get their car 3.1km in before trouble hit.

Heller has been classified on the leaderboards and currently occupies 39th overall, just behind McErlean in 38th.
