How have AI F1 predictions fared in 2025?
9th August 2025At the beginning of the year, we asked AI for six predictions regarding the 2025 Formula 1 season. How have they fared so far as the sport enjoys its summer break?
Ahead of the 2025 F1 season, predictions flowed in to fill in the absence Formula 1 had left as they enjoyed their post-season stop before returning to the track in March.
We, at ApexMotorsports.co.uk, also completed predictions at the beginning of the year, but with a twist: we asked AI.
As the pre-season was building, we asked ChatGPT six prompts to predict for the 2025 season: last constructor, most improved team, most podiums, most wins, constructors and drivers champions. So, how have they fared so far in 2025?
Last Constructor
Pre-Season: Haas F1
Currently: Alpine
Before the season got underway, ChatGPT claimed that Haas F1 would be the lowest-performing constructor in the championship this season. It suggested ‘recent performance trends’ in 2024 and the all-new lineup of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman would result in the team finishing dead last.
But, reality had other plans; the unwanted accolade is currently held by Alpine, who stand at the bottom of the championship in 10th. However, Haas is not far away in ninth place. There is only a 15-point gap standing between the two teams.
Most improved team
Pre-Season: Ferrari
Alright… Ferrari fans – brace yourselves.
In January, AI predicted that Ferrari would be the most improved team in the championship, helped by the arrival of Mercedes’ seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, claiming it could make ‘substantial progress.’
We re-ran this prompt back through ChatGPT to get an updated version on what it thinks is the most improved team so far. It felt only fair, as these were AI predictions – yes, we considered giving a machine a fair chance, anyway… moving on.
It currently puts Kick Sauber as the most improved team of the season. Meh, we guess that is warranted after only one point-scoring weekend last year, in Qatar, and a podium finish in 2025 – for Nico Hulkenberg… finally!
Don’t leave yet, Ferrari fans… we’re not done with you… unfortunately.
Most podiums
Pre-Season: Lando Norris
Currently: Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris
The first correct prediction of the list so far… Well. Kind of. ChatGPT boldly suspected that Lando Norris would be the man to get most of the podiums of the season.
To a degree, it is right, as Norris has 12 podiums to his name, but so does his teammate Oscar Piastri. So rather than a solo triumph, it’s more of a shared custody arrangement at the top of the podium charts.
Most wins
Pre-Season: Max Verstappen
Currently: Oscar Piastri
So, AI suspected the four-time world champion, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, would put up a worthy fight to defend his championship and fight for a fifth world title, taking up the accolade for most wins in 2025.
Well, he’s four race wins short of this accolade so far.
Oscar Piastri holds onto the most race wins of the season, at the summer break, with six victories to his name – one clear of Norris.
Constructors champion
Pre-Season: McLaren
Currently: McLaren
AI crown jewel so far, at this point in the championship. McLaren has snatched the championship lead with dominating force, and it’s simply their championship to lose.
Across the season so far, McLaren has taken 11 of 14 wins this season, only Japan, Imola and Canada spoiling their perfect run. They stand at the top of the standings with 559 points, 299 points ahead of their closest rivals, Ferrari.
You’ll probably have a higher chance of encountering a Mr Whippy ice cream van in your street, in the middle of winter, than McLaren losing this championship.
Drivers Champion
Pre-Season: Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc
Currently: Oscar Piastri
For the prestigious drivers’ title, ChatGPT predicted it would be finally Charles Leclerc’s time to shine, after a failed championship bid in 2022, or Hamilton would finally grab that eighth world title.
However, with 10 races remaining, that now looks as likely as finding a polite argument on social media against rival fans.
It seems we will have maiden world champions unless something goes wrong at McLaren and they forget where to find first gear at a race start. The championship looks to be a two-horse fight between Piastri and Norris.
Piastri currently stands as the championship leader, but he has Norris for company, nine points behind. Nearly 100 points separate the Australian’s lead from the first non-McLaren driver, Verstappen.
Ferrari fans, see, we weren’t done yet. Sorry (not sorry, blame AI).
