F1 Mid-Season Driver Rankings #21: Jack Doohan
6th August 2025Alpine’s axed driver Jack Doohan stands as the lowest-ranked Formula 1 driver in our rankings, as the sport enters its two-week summer break, and it’s not without obvious reason.

Doohan was catapulted into the spare Alpine seat at the end of the 2024 season, replacing then-driver Esteban Ocon, who was released from his contract and allowed him to participate in the post-season test with Haas F1
However, following the 2024 season finale and into the 2025 season, it was heavily speculated that Doohan had a target on his back before he even had a competitive session in his rookie year.
The rumour mill in pre-season testing revolved around his immediate future in the sport, with speculation that he could be replaced mid-season. It only took six races before that speculation ran true with Franco Colapinto being parachuted into the seat, replacing the Australian driver.
F1 is notoriously cut-throat, and Doohan experienced that first-hand.
Understandably, his performances did not help this matter with a first-lap crash on debut at his home race, the Australian Grand Prix. Then he had a driver error at the Japanese Grand Prix, during practice, where he forgot to close the DRS flap into turn one and crashed out of the session, heavily.
And after only six race weekends completed, it is understandable that Doohan would be our lowest-ranked driver of 2025 – and the year if the Australian does not return.
Our rankings placed him 21st after we ranked him out of 20 points, alongside the remaining drivers, across each race weekend of the season. The highest performing, or best driver, of the weekend would get a maximum score of 20 points, while each driver below them would be ranked one point less.
The rankings put Miami Grand Prix as the Australian’s best weekend of the season with five points scored, but he averaged 3.17 points a race weekend. See below:
- Australian Grand Prix: 3 Points
- Chinese Grand Prix: 3 Points
- Japanese Grand Prix: 2 Points
- Bahrain Grand Prix: 3 Points
- Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: 3 Points
- Miami Grand Prix: 5 Points
*Doohan has not raced in Formula 1 from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix to the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Total points scored: 19 Points
