Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamilton has been heavily speculated to make a potential retirement announcement after what has been a disappointing start to his Ferrari career.

It was speculated that an announcement would come on Friday, August 8, 2025, teased by the seven-time world champion, and this riled up the rumour mill into overdrive territory.

The speculation came racing through, ahead of the summer break, following two disappointing back-to-back race weekends in both Belgium and Hungary. In the latter event, the seven-time world champion was downbeat, calling himself ‘useless’ and suggesting Ferrari needed to change their driver.

However, it has been revealed that the announcement was not to do with his retirement from F1, but about a new non-alcoholic drink from Almave. On Instagram, his post said:

“There’s a story in the smoke. Introducing Almave Humo, a smoky non-alcoholic spirit made with Espadín agave harvested from the foothills of volcanoes in Puebla, Mexico.

“By adapting ancestral distillation techniques from the cradle of mezcal, Humo delivers the depth and intrigue of traditional smoky spirit, without the alcohol.

“For festive dinners and everyday celebrations, for moments of discovery and deep connection — Humo delivers sophisticated cocktails and authenticity — beyond proof.”

Hamilton failed to progress into Q3 in all three qualifying sessions in the last two races, with the Ferrari sister car making it to pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

In Belgium, Hamilton made two mistakes – spinning at the bus stop chicane and exceeding track limits at Radillion – and was knocked out in Q1, in both sprint qualifying and traditional qualifying.

In Hungary, the seven-time world champion was not fast enough to make his way into Q3 as Hamilton was knocked out in Q2, starting and finishing the Hungarian GP in 12th place.

Hamilton’s highlight of the season so far would be his sprint pole and sprint win at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Now that the news is out, fans can take a breather for the remainder of the summer break.
