When you think of some of the most iconic WRC cars, one of the most recognisable cars will come to mind: Subaru Impreza with that iconic blue and yellow livery, driven by the likes of Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Richard Burns and Petter Solberg and Mikko Hirvonen.

Now, collectors have the opportunity to secure the 2004 Subaru Impreza S10, which was driven by Hirvonen in the WRC.

The car is set to be auctioned off at the Silverstone Festival by Iconic Auctioneers, as part of a ‘standout collection’ of legendary rally cars that also includes the 1997 Ford Escort – driven by Carlos Sainz and Juha Kankkunen.

“As one of the few auction houses that offers dedicated live Sales for competition cars, our Iconic Competition Car Sale at Silverstone Festival is renowned for offering automotive motorsport excellence,” says Rob Hubbard, Managing Director and Principal Auctioneer of Iconic Auctioneers.

“This auction offers enthusiasts an extraordinary opportunity to acquire genuinely important rallying machines from the sport’s greatest era.”

The 2004 Subaru was built by Prodrive and achieved multiple top-five finishes during its tenure in the sport. According to the auctioneers, the Impreza has undergone ‘extensive mechanical recoommissioning,’ which also includes a new engine rebuild.

At its heart, the car still maintains its turbo-charged, competition-spec two-litre, flat-four, mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. It was fitted with right-hand push/pull paddle shifts and drives on all four wheels through electronically controlled centre and rear differentials.

This Impreza boasts a credible history, including entries to Rally Mexico and Rally Cyprus in 2004, where it finished fifth overall on both occasions.

Its most dramatic moment came at Rally Finland, 2004, on SS10 – Killeri 1, a 2.06km Super Special Stage. Hirvonen collides with the barrier at a right-hand corner, damaging the front suspension and retiring from the rally.

Iconic confirms the car still retains its original Gold FIA Passport, indicating the damage was repaired rather than re-shelled, and remains on its original Prodrive chassis.

According to the auctioneers, the car is estimated to go for a value between £280,000 to £320,000. The auction will get underway on Friday, August 22 at 2pm.
