It was business as usual for McLaren as their two drivers topped the timing boards at the Hungaroring with Norris leading Piastri by 0.019s.

Aston Martin announced that Fernando Alonso would miss out on the opening hour of practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix due to ‘muscular pain’ in his back. Felipe Drugovich was parachuted into the car to replace the two-time world champion.

Paul Aron also replaced Nico Hulkenberg at Kick Sauber as part of the team’s agreement with Alpine earlier in the year.

There was a Virtual Safety Car intervention at the halfway point of the session as Aron pulled off at the left-hand U-corner, just before the pit lane. The Sauber driver pulled off to the track with a problem.

It was also the first visit to the Hungaroring since the circuit underwent its new renovation since the sport last visited last year.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
