The iconic prancing horse has brought an end to speculation over Vasseur’s future as the Italian team extended his contract with a multi-year deal.

Since the Canadian Grand Prix, reports from the Italian media suggested the 57-year-old’s position at the head of the F1 team was under threat.

Ferrari’s decision to renew his contract for an undisclosed duration of time puts to bed the rumours about his future. In their statement, Ferrari said:

“Renewing Fred’s contract reflects Ferrari’s determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari’s values and long-term ambitions.

“Under Fred’s leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team’s confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari’s fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve.”

It has been a challenging start to the season for the 2024 vice champions, with only one sprint victory to their name, thanks to new-arrival and seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, and five podium finishes – all in Charles Leclerc’s name.

However, Vasseur led the team to an intense championship fight against McLaren last year, working the team from their post-2022 slump. Ferrari were the runner-up in the constructors’ championship, trailing 2024 winners McLaren by 14 points.

Vasseur was angry with the speculation on his future, claiming it wasn’t what the team needed right now, but the team boss has said the team need to ‘keep progressing.’ He said:

“I’m grateful for the trust Ferrari continues to place in me. This renewal is not just a confirmation — it’s a challenge to keep progressing, to stay focused, and to deliver.

“Over the past 30 months, we’ve laid strong foundations, and now we must build on them with consistency and determination. We know what’s expected, and we’re all fully committed to meeting those expectations and taking the next step forward together.”
