Oscar Piastri tops Spanish GP FP2 to complete McLaren double
30th May 2025 0 By Kamron KentMcLaren’s Oscar Piastri topped the timing boards after the second hour of practice at the Spanish Grand Prix as McLaren completed the Friday double.

After Lando Norris topped the timing boards in the first hour of practice, his teammate, Piastri, took his position at the top of the timing boards in FP2.
Esteban Ocon and Alexander Albon took to the track for the first time of the weekend after they were sidelined in FP1, allowing Ryo Hirakawa and Victor Martins to drive their cars.
Haas’ Oliver Bearman had the biggest moment of the session with a spin on the exit of turn three as he ran wide. The Briton was able to continue without further issue after he skipped across the gravel and returned to the circuit.
How the second hour ended…
Piastri topped the second hour of practice with a lap time of one minute and 12.760 seconds, finishing ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, in second and third. Norris and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the top five.
Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli improved his fortunes from FP1 as the Italian completed the session in sixth ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, seventh and eighth.
Racing Bulls completed the top 10 with Isack Hadjar finishing ahead of Liam Lawson, in ninth and 10th.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton occupied 11th ahead of Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, in 12th and 13th. The Williams duo rounded out the top 15, in Carlos Sainz and Albon.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll led the bottom five drivers – in 16th place – ahead of Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto and the two Haas’ of Ocon and Bearman, as Alpine’s Franco Colapinto completed the 20-car field.
