Ahead of the Rally Sweden WRC event, Rovanpera was in his home country of Finland for the Arctic Lapland Rally which took place between January 30 and February 1.
Whilst the Finnish driver took part in the event, it was also a crucial test for the two-time world champion as he was driving Toyota’s Rally1 Yaris in the event.
This test was expected to give the team data and helpful insights ahead of the Swedish event which will be on snow, the same as the Arctic Lapland Rally.
Rovanpera deemed the rally as ‘good and valuable’ and expects the experience will help the team in this month’s WRC event. On X, he said:
Another Arctic adventure in the bag!☃️
Good and valuable testing kilometers on proper snow rally condition as it always is here in Rovaniemi – and I’m sure this was a big help for us for Rally Sweden!
Also congrats to Tuukka Kauppinen for the win!#KR69 #ToyotaGAZOORacing pic.twitter.com/26N5AZOx5H

Despite the snow test, Rovanpera had a moment mid-event when he hit a snowbank in the rally. He was forced to avoid a poorly positioned spectator.
In the end, Tuukka Kauppinen took overall victory in the Arctic Rally with an overall time of 1 hour, 52 minutes and 16.4 seconds. Rovanpera finished the event in second, 11.5 seconds off the win ahead of third-placed Esapekka Lappi.
Kauppinen, 18, stands as the youngest-ever driver to win the Arctic Rally event and now leads the overall Finnish Rally Championship.
Following the test/event, Rovanpera will be back in action this month as the WRC heads to Finland’s neighbour, Sweden, for the next round of the 2025 championship on February 13 – 16.
