On Sunday, Ogier took an unprecedented 10th win at the World Rally Championships curtain raiser, extending his record at the event and taking the championship lead after the opening round.

The eight-time world champion pipped fellow competitors, teammate Elfyn Evans and Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux who kept the Monte Master on his toes in the final day of the event.

Upon winning the rally, Ogier dedicated the win to his late uncle who he lost last year, describing him as his ‘lucky star’ for the milestone achievement.

Despite this the chairman of Toyota GR, Akio Toyoda was ‘certain’ the Frenchman would win the event. In a statement, he said:

“We were able to kick off the 2025 season with Seb’s memorable 10th victory in Monte Carlo.

“Up until 2019, Seb had a streak of six consecutive wins in Monte Carlo with various teams. Since joining Toyota in 2020, he has alternated between 2nd and 1st place every other year. Given this pattern, I was certain that he would win this year.

“Seb, congratulations on your 10th win in Monte Carlo! I think it’s time for you to break that pattern and win again next year!”

With Toyota taking a 1-2 finish at the opening event, it means the reigning world champions Toyota are the championship leaders with 60 points to their name – the maximum amount of points from a single round.

Hyundai trails behind 24 points behind on 26 points with M-Sport taking up the rear on 11pts.

The WRC returns on February 13-16 for the second round of the championship at Rally Sweden, the only snow-featuring event on the calendar. As such, due to Ogier’s part-time schedule, it will see Evans open the road ahead of Fourmaux.
