Ogier set an incredible record on Sunday afternoon as the eight-time world champion took his 10th win of the Rallye Monte Carlo having fought back from a troubled Thursday night.
Although the Frenchman topped the opening two stages of the weekend, the multiple-world champion made a mistake on SS3 as he ran wide on a left-hand corner. Fortunately, he was able to keep the throttle pinned to get his Yaris out of trouble.
The Toyota driver bounced back as others faltered on Friday and from there he was untouchable. By the end, the Frenchman took the win with 18.5 seconds in hand over his teammate, Evans.
Speaking at the end of the event, having won the rally, Ogier dedicated the win to his uncle which he lost a year ago, dubbing him as his ‘lucky star.’

Evans, despite his late push on Ogier, had to finish the season opener second-best. The Welshman had a moment at 16km as he tapped a rockface on the Wolf Power Stage, ultimately costing him the Power Stage win as he lost the stage to Ogier by 0.3s.
Hyundai’s newcomer Adrien Fourmaux was the leading driver for the South Korean manufacturer as the Frenchman battled it out for the podium with Evans. In the end, the Hyundai driver had to settle for the final step on the podium.
Yohan Rossell took the first win of the WRC2 championship ahead of Nikolay Gryazin and Eric Camilli who finished second and third in the overall timing board. However, as Gryazin had not nominated points so it meant Rossell managed to take the podium with his brother Leo Rossell.
The WRC will return for the second round of the season with Rally Sweden on February 13 – 16.
