Defending world champions, Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe, would’ve hoped for a much better start to their title defence in the curtain-raising Rallye Monte Carlo which ignited the 2025 WRC season.
However, the champions had a troublesome weekend and saw them finish the season opener down in sixth behind both of their teammates, Adrien Fourmaux and Ott Tanak in third and fifth respectively.
They had a good start on Thursday night, leading the pack as the overnight leaders, but trouble hit on Friday. On SS6, the Belgian crew failed to slow down enough to make a right-hand hairpin corner and slammed into the grass bank.
Their left-rear tyre hung onto the wounded Hyundai i20N Rally1 for the remaining 10km before the team could work on a fix. On the second loop, at the same stage, on SS9, Neuville outbroke himself again at the same corner. The champions suffered with a puncture for their troubles.

As a result, fans have added Neuville’s troublesome corner onto Google Maps naming it ‘Neuville’s Corner,’ on the eastern edge of Villaudemard. The fans did not stop there as 10 reviews were left, and an overall rating of 3.9 stars.
“Amazing drive, until this corner, almost lost my rear left wheel,” said one review. “Great place for used Hyundai spare parts,” was another review.
Following a troubled start for the defending world champions, Neuville and Wydaeghe currently sit – provisionally – sixth in the world championship standings, having taken nine points from the season opener.
Next up is Rally Sweden, on February 13 – 16, where the champions will be looking for a more favourable outing to strengthen their title defence as the 2025 season continues.
