Haas’ temporary seizure of assets has been released to allow the team to travel from Zandvoort to Monza ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, later this weekend.
News broke late last week, ahead of the resumption of the Formula 1 world championship at the Dutch Grand Prix that Haas’ cars and equipment were effectively impounded inside the Dutch circuit.
Whilst the team were not affected in their participation in the Dutch GP, on Sunday, allowing both cars to finish 11th and 18th, Dutch authorities and bailiffs were reported to be present in the Paddock on Thursday.
Uralkali released a statement, on Monday, confirming that they had received the payment from the F1 team whilst also collecting a race car owed to them under the terms of the sponsorship agreement.
“Uralkali confirms that we have received in full the payment owed by Haas (including interest and fees) following the ruling of the Swiss court of arbitration,” said Uralkali’s statement. “We have also collected the race car owed to us under the terms of the sponsorship agreement.
“As such, Uralkali has notified Dutch authorities that they may release Haas’ assets from arrest as an interim measure, and Haas is free to take them out of the Netherlands.
“The money returned to Uralkali by the Swiss arbitration and transferred to us by Haas will be used to increase our capacity to ensure stable food supply.”
The ordeal came as a result of an arbitration, in June, in which Haas was ruled to have ‘just cause’ to terminate its sponsorship contract with Uralkali, which the Russian fertiliser company deemed was a breach of contract.
Haas terminated the contract with their former title sponsor as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which ended both the sponsorship agreement and the F1 drive for Nikita Mazepin.
F1 continues – with Haas finally on their way – this weekend at Monza for the Italian Grand Prix from August 30 – September 1.
