Norris has taken his second career victory, and second of the season, at the Dutch Grand Prix as Formula 1 resumes for the second half of the season.
The eventual race winner denied Red Bull’s reigning world champion his fourth consecutive pole and race win at the event. In all previous editions of the Dutch GP, Verstappen had secured both pole position and the win since it returned to the calendar in 2021.
Despite starting from pole, Norris suffered another slow start off the line although his reaction time was identical to Verstappen’s. As a result, the reigning world champion had the edge going into the first corner.
In the laps that followed, Norris remained close behind Verstappen until lap 18 when the McLaren – aided by DRS – swooped past the #1 Red Bull down the pit straight, into turn one.
From there, Norris raced with complete control as he started to edge out a gap over Verstappen. By the time the chequered flag fell on the Dutch race, 22 seconds separated Norris from Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third.
Following the win and a fourth-place finish for, Norris’s teammate, Oscar Piastri, it means McLaren edges closer to Red Bull in the constructor’s championship whilst Norris eats into Verstappen’s advantage in the driver’s table.
Provisionally, avoiding any post-race disqualifications it means McLaren now stands 30 points behind Red Bull in the team’s standings. In terms of the driver’s championship, Norris now stands 70 points behind the Dutchman.
Next up is the Italian Grand Prix, next weekend, for the 16th round of the 2024 championship.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
