McLaren pull covers off 2024 F1 contender MCL-38
14th February 2024Following digital renders being released in January, McLaren has officially pulled back the covers on their upcoming Formula One challenger the MCL-38.
The team first showcased the car through digital renders back in January, in a surprise announcement, on January 16. On February 14, the team finally pulled back the covers to reveal all ahead of the upcoming championship.
McLaren launched their 2024 challenger at Silverstone on Wednesday which saw the digital renders come to life.
“It’s awesome to be able to launch our 2024 competitor, the MCL38, at Silverstone today,” said Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO. “It’s great to see our new car in its 2024 livery on track and see the hard work and dedication of the team come together.”
“The fantastic thing about this sport is how competitive it is, and therefore we must remain realistic as every team will have made progress in the off season. The true test of whether we’ve made steps in the right direction will be qualifying in Bahrain.
“We’re all excited to go racing again, but we know there’s a long season ahead of us and a lot of work still to do to ensure we build on the progress we made throughout 2023.”
McLaren will give the car its first taste of on-track action with a promotional filming day at the Silverstone Circuit. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will share driving duties for the promotional event.
As previously seen, when the team launched the car livery in January, the MCL-38 will include a colour scheme of papaya, anthracite and chrome.
“I’m excited to get behind the wheel of the MCL38 and see how it runs. The livery looks great on the new car, so it’s fun to be able to get out on track today,” said Lando Norris, McLaren F1 Driver.
“I’m looking forward to shaking the car down in Bahrain. I have full confidence in the team that we’ll continue pushing forward off the back of the turnaround last season. However, the true test of our progress is coming up when we put the car through its paces in testing, ahead of then qualifying and racing for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
“Over the past few weeks, I’ve been back at the MTC putting a lot of work in on the simulator with my engineering team to ensure that we’re fully prepared ahead of next week.”
McLaren’s official car launch marks them down as the eighth team to launch their car with Mercedes next to launch their 2024 contender, the W15 later on Wednesday.
Red Bull Racing will round out the car launches with their launch on Thursday, February 15.
