Ferrari reveal SF-24 ahead of F1 2024 season
13th February 2024Scuderia Ferrari have revealed their 2024 championship challenger, the SF-24, with a new look for the upcoming campaign.
Ferrari have finally revealed their SF-24, on Tuesday, as the team looks to take the challenge to Red Bull ahead of the 24-race calendar. As a result of the Prancing Horse’s long history in F1, the SF-24 will be the team’s 70th car they’ve made to take part in the championship.
According to Ferrari, the new car – which is the third one produced under the current regulations – has been designed to make the car easier to drive for their pilots Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Making the car ‘easy to drive’ has been done by making the car react predictably which the drivers positively felt in the final races of the season. A car that is ‘strong and honest’ will allow Leclerc and Sainz to extract the most performance out of the car and its respective power unit.
Enrico Cardile, Ferrari’s Technical Director Chassis, and the person who led the design group, said:
“With the SF-24 we wanted to create a completely new platform and in fact, every area of the car has been redesigned, even if our starting point was the development direction we adopted last year and which saw us take a leap forward in terms of competitiveness in the final part of the season.
“We have taken on board what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into engineering reality, with the aim of giving them a car that’s easier to drive and therefore easier to get the most out of and push it to its limits.
“We did not set ourselves any design constraints other than that of delivering a strong and honest racing car, which can reproduce on the race track what we have seen in the wind tunnel.”
In terms of the car design it is fairly different to previous editions of their F1 challengers. White was first re-introduced at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix when the sport returned to Sin City, and it will make its mark on this year’s edition of the car too.
White and yellow stripes contribute to the iconic red matt finish on the SF-24. Black has been subsequently adjusted and is now restricted to certain parts of the car such as the floor, bargeboards and part of the halo.
On the car launch, Ferrari Team Principal, Fred Vassuer said:
“Presenting a new car to the world for the first time is always a very exciting moment for me and the drivers, even if we are all already thinking about the moment we will go head to head with our rivals on track.
“This year, we must start off where we left off at the end of last season, when we were consistent front runners, with a view to constantly improving in all areas.
“The longest ever Formula 1 season awaits us and Charles, Carlos and I all agree, we must be more cinical and effective in how we manage the races, making bold choices, in order to get the best possible result at every Grand Prix.”
While the team will complete a comprehensive test in Bahrain next week for the three-day pre-season test, the car will get out on track prior to his debut in an official F1 session.
In a private session, Ferrari will run the car out on the track for filming, marketing and communications purposes. This will allow the team to complete a shakedown, and it will allow the drivers to correlate how the car feels compared to simulator work.
Next up on the F1 car launches will be Mercedes F1 who will reveal their 2024 contender, on February 14. McLaren will also launch their 2024 car, on the same day, after revealing digital renders back in January.
