Porsche Supercup: Fach secures maiden win in British GP after championship rivals crash
9th July 2023Fach Auto Tech’s Alexander Fach went on to secure his maiden Porsche Supercup win, in Britain, as the championship contenders tangled together in the opening lap.
How the race unfolded…
It was a good start from CLRT’s pole sitter, Dorian Boccolacci, as the French driver defended against second-placed GP Elite’s Larry Ten Voorde, followed closely by BWT’s Harry King in third. However, chaos ensued when the pack reached the braking zone of Village (T3).
Ten Voorde made slight contact with King’s rear right wheel which unsettled the Dutchman’s car, in turn, the Team GP driver was unable to slow down in time for the third corner. As a result, Ten Voorde made contact with both Boccolacci and King and sent them onto the run-off area.
Ten Voorde and Boccolacci were able to get moving once more straight away, followed by King shortly after.
Due to the early contact, Fach led the race ahead of Richardson Racing’s Robert de Haan and Martinet by Almeras’ Alessandro Ghiretti who were second and third respectively.
On lap four, there was a three-car jam down in Vale (T16) which involved Hubb Van Eijndhoven (GP Elite), Simone Iaquinta (Huber Racing) and Jukka Honkavuori (Martinet by Almeras). Thankfully, all three cars were able to continue on without the intervention of the safety car.
Iaquinta was quickly given a 10-second time penalty for the incident down in Vale.
The remaining laps remained fairly well behaved with minimal incidents amongst the drivers. However, on lap 11 of 14, Ten Voorde peeled back into the pit lane to retire from the race.
Of the drivers involved in the first lap collision, King and Ten Voorde had retired while Boccolacci had received to 12th place, half a second behind Ombra S.R.L’s Marvin Klein in 11th.
