Porsche Supercup: Pereira commands lead in Spa as Voorde snatches second

28th August 2022 0 By Kamron Kent

BWT Lechner Racing’s Dylan Pereira controlled the race from start to finish to secure the win while Team GP Elite’s Larry ten Voorde moved up to second, on the last lap.

How the race unfolded…

Pole-sitter, Pereira and, second-placed, SSR Huber Racing’s Laurin Heinrich got a even start as they launched off their grid spots towards Spa-Francorchamp’s first corner. CLRT’s Marvin Klein attempted a move down the inside from third on the grid, at La Source, but the Frenchman had to back out of the move as Pereira rotated around the hairpin.

As the pack catapulted towards Eau Rogue/Radillion, Pereira was quicker on the throttle and entered Eau Rogue unchallenged by the pack behind.

When the field arrived at the high-speed chicane of Les Combes (turn seven and eight), Pereira was free of any trouble whereas, second-placed, Heinrich had Team GP’s Larry Ten Voorde and Klein for company as they went three-wide into the chicane.

Fortunately, Heinrich managed to maintain his position whilst Klein had to yield third place to Voorde.

The yellow flags were flown as the session approached its halfway mark as Ombra S.R.L’s Gianmarco Quaresmini and GP Elite’s Huub Van Eijndhoven made contact at the bus stop chicane (turns 19 and 20). The incident between the two drivers, according to race control, would be investigated after the race.

As the race entered half-race distance, the championship leader, Pereira remained out in front with a comfortable 4.2 second gap over Heinrich and Voorde who were in P2 and P3, respectively.

As the field crossed the line to start the penultimate lap, third-placed, Voorde started his best attempts to distract Heinrich. At the same time, Pereira had checked out at the front of the race with more than six seconds in hand.

As the two raced towards La Source, the Dutch driver started to flash his headlights, in a bid to force a mistake from the the Huber Racing driver. Heinrich held his own down the Kemmel Straight to hold onto second.

In a last-ditch effort, on the final lap, Ten Voorde shaped up a move down the inside into turn one – on the final lap – to snatch away second place from Heinrich. This allowed the Team GP driver to get better traction off the exit and cement his second-place finish.

Podium:

  1. Dylan Pereira, Lechner Racing
  2. Larry ten Voorde, Team GP
  3. Laurin Heinrich, SSR Huber Racing
