Andretti and Cadillac partner up for F1 pursuit
5th January 2023Andretti Autosport have announced the two American brands; Andretti Global and General Motors with Cadillac, have partnered up with the ambition compete in Formula 1.
It is perhaps the worst kept secret that Andretti wants ambition to break into the Formula 1 grid and compete on the international stage. The news of them joining the grid has circulated the mill for some time now, and keeps on gaining traction and momentum.
Tempted by F1’s ever growing presence in the United States of America, with three races due to get underway in the 2023 season; Miami, Austin and Las Vegas. The team, named the ‘Andretti Cadillac’ team are planning to submit an expression of Interest.
This comes after the FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said he has asked his team to look into ‘launching an Expressions of Interest process’ which would allow new teams to enter F1.
Chairman and CEO of Andretti Global, Michael Andretti said:
“We are continuing to grow Andretti Global and its family of racing teams and always have our eyes on what’s next.
“I feel that we are well suited to be a new team for Formula One and can bring value to the series and our partners, and excitement for the fans. I’m proud to have GM and Cadillac alongside us as we pursue this goal.
“GM and Andretti share a legacy born out of the love of racing. We now have the opportunity to combine our motorsport passions and dedication to innovation to build a true American F1 bid.
“Together, we will continue to follow procedures and steps put forth by the FIA during the evaluation process.
“In the meantime, we continue to optimistically prepare should we be fortunate enough to have Andretti Cadillac formally approved as a Formula One contender.”

The decision for the two powerhouses to pair up together combines two brands which a rich history of motorsports.
Andretti Global, partner company for Andretti Autosport, are known to be a global racing enterprise with teams in seven different top-tier championships across the world from Formula E, Extreme E to Indycar – collecting success in each category.
Like Andretti, Cadillac has seen success out on track in the IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge. The team have collected a number of wins, podiums and championships at IMSA, and the team are set to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship with its hybrid Cadillac V-LMDh.
However, the pairing have previously worked together in 2012 when they partnered up in Chevrolet’s return to the NTT IndyCar Series. Their collaboration secured nine wins in two seasons, and claimed the driver, team and manufacturer titles in 2012.
General Motors President, Mark Reuss also said:
“General Motors is honored to team with Andretti Global on this historic moment in racing.
“We have a long, rich history in motorsports and engineering innovation, and we are thrilled with the prospect of pairing with Andretti Global to form an American F1 team that will help spur even more global interest in the series and the sport.
“Cadillac and F1 both have growing global appeal. Our brand has a motorsports pedigree that’s more than a century in the making, and we would be proud to have the opportunity to bring our distinct American innovation and design to F1.”
The team have announced, if they are selected, they will want to compete as soon as possible with at least one American driver.
Being an American outfit, alongside established F1 team: Haas F1, the Andretti Cadillac team would be based in the US and would be equipped with a support facility in the United Kingdom.
