Jost Capito leaves Williams ahead of 2023
12th December 2022Williams Racing Team Principle, Jost Capito is set to leave the Wantage-based outfit ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 season, the iconic British racing team has announced.
The British racing team have announced their team principle, Capito will retire ahead of the 2023 season after two seasons at the helm.
Tempted out of retirement, Capito was given the task to rebuild the team – following Dorilton Capital’s takeover from the Williams family in 2020 – and help the team return to their glory days.
Williams made a step in the right direction in 2021, following George Russell’s maiden points – and podium – finish which put the team eighth at the end of the year.
However, across the 2022 campaign, they fell back down to 10th and last, only managing to score eight points.
On the news of his departure, Capito said:
“It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team.
“I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.”
It is reported that Capito will not be the only person to leave the team going into the new year as Williams’ Technical Director, FX Demaison, will be leaving too.
Dorilton Capital’s Chairman, Matthew Savage said:
“We would like to thank Jost for his hard work and dedication as we embarked on a major transformation process to begin the journey of reviving Williams Racing.
“We’re grateful that Jost postponed his planned retirement to take on this challenge and now he will pass the reins on for the next part of this staged process.
“We would also like to thank FX for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future as he moves on.”
The team is set to announce its new Team Principle and Technical Director ‘in due course.’
