Lawson heads into the weekend sitting tenth in the Drivers’ Championship after scoring 10 points across the opening four rounds of the 2026 season with a series of solid results.

The New Zealander picked up seventh in China before finishing ninth in Japan, as well as securing points in the China Sprint, which should give him confidence heading into another Sprint weekend in Canada.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is also a track Lawson has enjoyed previously, and the Racing Bulls driver admitted he is looking forward to returning.

Ahead of the Canadian GP, Lawson said:

“It’s exciting, it’s a track I loved driving at last year.”

“I really enjoy this place so I’m excited to get into it this weekend.”

Lawson is hoping Racing Bulls can strengthen its position in the midfield battle with the upgrade package they’re set to bring to Canada. He explained:

“We have an upgrade that we hope to deliver well and if that all happens, hopefully we’ll be in a good place.”

Lawson had a difficult weekend in Miami last time out but feels his personal form remains strong in the new generation of cars. He added:

“I feel good, we’re obviously all trying to get used to these cars and we’re learning every weekend as regulations change as well. It’s a lot of learning.”

“Miami was a tough weekend but I think personally I felt really good over the weekend and I feel good coming into this one too.”
