Montreal is set to host the fifth Formula 1 round of the 2026 season at the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix, and the weather looks like it is not expected to remain stable.
According to the forecast, the F1 race weekend is expected to start dry and sunny but is set to turn wet and rainy, which poses a risk of impacting the race on Sunday.
The Canadian race also marks the third sprint race weekend of the season, following the Chinese and Miami Grand Prix, last time out.
Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli remains the championship leader, having secured his third win on the bounce in Miami, with George Russell losing some ground in his championship bid to his Italian teammate.
Heading into the race weekend, the two championship contenders are separated by 20 points after Antonelli became the first driver this season to reach the 100-point mark. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc brings up the rear, third overall, 41 points adrift of the Italian star.
So, what does the weather hold this weekend, according to the meteorologists at AccuWeather?
Friday
The weather is expected to be partly sunny, and warm, for the opening day of the Formula 1 race weekend, with temperatures as high as 20° and lows of 11°.
There isn’t any rain expected to affect the sole practice and sprint qualifying sessions, with a 0% chance of precipitation.
Saturday
The weather conditions will remain similar to Friday, with sun expected through high clouds and described as the ‘best day of the weekend.’ Temperatures are set to increase up to highs of 22° and lows of 13°.
Saturday will continue F1’s dry weekend with no rain expected for day two of the Canadian GP.
Sunday
Race day is expected to be hit by a change of the weather, as the weather-watchers at AccuWeather expect that ‘rain may impact the race’ and advise ‘a jacket could come in handy.’
Temperatures are expected to be the lowest of the weekend, with highs of 14° and a low temperature of 11°. The chance of rain is expected to increase significantly, rising to 84%.
