The Argentine driver had one of his strongest weekends of the season in Florida, securing top ten finishes in both qualifying sessions before finishing seventh in the Grand Prix – his best F1 finish to date.

Colapinto says the result highlighted Alpine’s progress and thinks it’ll give the team confidence heading into the second Sprint weekend in a row at Montreal.

He said: “I’m happy to be racing again in Canada, especially for another Sprint weekend too.

“I really want to build on the very positive weekend we had in Miami with our top-10 finishes in both Qualifying sessions and my best ever result in F1.”

Gasly says Alpine have “some answers” ahead of Canadian Grand Prix

The 22-year-old is reaching an important milestone this weekend with the Canadian Grand Prix marking a year from his first appearance with the team.

He added: “It is now a year since my first race with the team and Miami shows we’re on the right track and we’ve made a solid start to the season.

Since Miami, Colapinto has spent time back at Alpine’s Enstone base as preparations intensified for the trip to Canada.

The 22-year-old revealed that simulator work had formed a key part of the team’s preparations as they look to maintain their recent momentum.

“I was able to spend some time back in Enstone over the past two weeks and we recapped the good result as well as looking ahead to Montréal this weekend with some important simulator work,” he explained.

Colapinto is also encouraged by returning to a circuit he has previous experience of, with the high-speed nature of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve adding another challenge to the weekend.

He added: “The circuit is a very fun one, finally a track I’ve raced on before, with the high-speed long straights but also the tight corners and chicanes where we can get right up to the walls.

“This will be our third Sprint event of the year and as always, the time in the car is the most important thing.

“We will all be working hard to keep the positive momentum we have in the team going as we aim for another good weekend.”
