On the week of F1’s return from the summer break, the FIA has now confirmed on Thursday that they had completed extensive physical inspections on three of the top 10 drivers from the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The three drivers subject to these inspections were Mercedes’ George Russell, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, at the Hungaroring.
The inspections were confirmed to be around the tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), and were checked at the suppliers facility, the technical delegate’s report confirmed.
It was confirmed that the various inspections were checked with the competitors such as on-car wiring harnesses, TMPS electronic control unit and antenna anti-temper seals, and firmware.
The report concluded that all of the inspected components were in conformance with the current technical regulations. They said:
“In particular the following items have been validated: The on-car wiring harnesses were checked to ensure the signal paths for communication lines were uninterrupted between the TPMS ECU, TPMS antennae and SECU.
“TPMS ECU and antenna anti-temper seals applied by the supplier during production were in-tact and matched records held by the supplier.
“TPMS sensors were signed off with standard production checks. All sensors reported within expected tolerances and no signs of tampering were found.
“TPMS ECU firmware was verified by performing an MD5 check of the entire memory. The handshake signal between antenna and ECU matched the expected format.
“Each system was functionally tested as a complete kit: TPMS sensors pressurized, signals received by the system and forwarded over CAN. All this matched within the tolerance of a reference sensor.”
