F1 Mid-Season Ranking #12: Nico Hulkenberg
18th August 2025Nico Hulkenberg has enjoyed a somewhat okay season so far, and will likely remember it for a single reason: a podium. How has he fared in 2025, according to our rankings?

Hulkenberg is Kick Sauber’s leading driver in both our rankings and the drivers’ championship (ninth), as part of the team’s all-new driver lineup for this season – alongside Gabriel Bortoleto.
The German has been a solid midfield driver this season and a strong points scorer when the chances arrive, scoring six points in the season opener, before taking home four point-scoring finishes from Spain to Britain.
His worst finish of the season has been a disqualification, after finishing 13th, in Bahrain, where he was disqualified for excessive plank wear on his car. Besides this, his worst finishing position, which he has kept, stands at 16th, which he obtained in both Japan and Monaco.
His highlight of the season would be at the British GP, his best weekend of the season so far, as the German finally broke that elusive duck and snatched his first podium finish.
In terms of teammate head-to-heads, Hulkenberg is being beaten in qualifying performances, trailing 8-6 to his teammate Bortoleto, and losing 2-1 in sprint qualifying.
Race trim is more even, with both drivers equal on 7-7, but Bortoleto has the edge in sprint races, leading 2-1.

DISCLAIMER:
As previously confirmed, we rank drivers out of 20 points across each race weekend of the season. The highest performing, or best driver, of the weekend would get a maximum score of 20 points, while each driver below them would be ranked one point less.
If a driver does not start a race, they will be automatically given one point.
If more than one driver does not start a race, these points will be handed out in order it is announced i.e. Driver 1 (D1) is announced not to start two hours before the race start, but Driver 2 (D2) retires on the way to – or on – the grid, D1 will get one point and D2 will get two points.
