Haas F1 conduct testing of previous cars at Japan
6th August 2025Haas F1 have conducted their first of two tests in Japan, as part of the team’s Testing of Previous Cars programme, in partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
On Wednesday and Thursday, August 6 and August 7, Haas have gone to Japan’s iconic Fuji Speedway as part the team’s Testing of Previous Cars programme.
It was announced back in July that the team would be at Fuji for this test, as Formula 1 enters its summer break ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of the month.
This TPC programme will be the teams first time they have ran such a test in F1. In the announcement, Haas F1 Team Principal, Ayao Komatsu said:
“I’m naturally very excited that in our first season running the team’s TPC program we’re able to enjoy two days running at Fuji Speedway in Japan.
“The significance of running our car at Toyota’s home circuit – where we first announced our partnership with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing last October, it’s quite special. To then give Sho Tsuboi his first outing in a Formula 1 car is equally satisfying considering his pedigree as a multiple champion.
“We’re obviously already familiar with Ryō’s talents and we look forward to his continued feedback into our program. The fact that we’re running the VF-23 and the test is open to fans – that’s a great thing too.
“We know the passion Japanese fans have for Formula 1, so to get a second run in the country there this year after April’s Japanese Grand Prix is fantastic.”
Haas confirmed their reserve driver, Ryo Hirakawa, who has enjoyed getting behind the wheel in official Free Practice 1 sessions this year, in Bahrain and Spain – with further sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi.
As part of their agreement with Toyota Gazoo Racing, their driver Sho Tsuboi will make his debut appearance driving the car during the test.
Both drivers will be testing out the team’s 2023 championship car, the VF-23, which was previously driven by Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.
The Fuji Speedway, which last hosted an F1 race in 2008, will be open for the public to attend both days of the F1 test. According to The Race, the prices would be 1,200 Japanese Yen (£6) for adults, 900 Yen for high school students, and free for those in junior high or younger.
