How does the grid line up for Hungary GP with penalties applied

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position, but how will the rest of the Formula 1 grid line up behind him?

Leclerc pulled out a shock pole position on Saturday’s qualifying session, pipping both McLarens to the top spot of the grid. Oscar Piastri will be the leading McLaren, which will keep the Monegasque company as they run down into turn one at lights out. 

However, there has been a change to the grid since qualifying, as Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda’s car has had changes completed under parc ferme conditions. 

The Japanese driver’s #22 RB21 has been given new engine components, such as a fifth internal combustion engine, turbocharger, motor generator unit – heat and kinetic (MGU-H and MGU-K), which adds up to a 40-place grid penalty. 

But a change to the car’s brake cooling configuration has forced the Japanese driver to start from the pit lane. This will promote the likes of Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Nico Hulkenberg (Kick Sauber) and Alexander Albon (Williams) up one place. 

Tsunoda’s shock exit from Q1 wasn’t the only shock of the session on Saturday, as Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton couldn’t make it through to Q3 as the seven-time world champion endured a Q2 exit in 12th place.
