Lando Norris seals Hungary GP win ahead of F1 shutdown
3rd August 2025Lando Norris has taken the race win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, leading home a McLaren one-two at the Hungaroring, ahead of the Formula 1 summer break.

Norris has taken his ninth career victory at the Hungarian GP after a fierce battle against his teammate, Oscar Piastri, in the late stages of the race, sealing the 200th win for the McLaren team.
The Briton started the race from third on the grid, behind both Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc – the pole sitter – and finished the first lap down in fifth.
When the first round of pit stops commenced, the idea of a one-stop race for Norris was brought to his attention. ‘Yeah, why not’ was the McLaren driver’s response.
After the second round of stops, it left Norris leading the race. Piastri tried to overtake the Briton to snatch the lead, but he could not find a way past, locking up on the penultimate lap into turn one.
By the time the chequered flag fell, the two McLarens finished first and second, with Norris and Piastri, respectively, separated by 0.698s.
Mercedes’ George Russell rounded out the podium finish, in third. The Briton had a frustrating time out on track as he raced Leclerc for the final podium spot.
Russell complained that Leclerc was moving under braking into turn one as the Mercedes worked his way past the Ferrari, in the later stages, something the Monegasque was later given a five-second time penalty for (driving erratically).
According to StatsF1.com, McLaren’s 1-2 finish now knocks out Williams, Aston Martin, Kick Sauber, Racing Bulls, Haas and Alpine out of contention for the constructors’ championship.
In turn, Oliver Bearman, Franco Colapinto and Jack Doohan, who has not raced since Miami, are out of contention for the drivers’ championship.
Next up is the two-week annual summer break, which breaks up the season ahead of the penultimate race in the Netherlands.
