After a ‘what could’ve been’ has been turned into a reality for McLaren’s championship contender, Norris, as the Briton secured his maiden home victory at Silverstone in changing conditions.
The race started in damp conditions, with the winner in third, but some risked it into the pits to put on the slicks before the race officially got underway, but the rain later added another spanner in the works.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri had taken the lead of the race early on and was later slapped with a 10-second time penalty for a safety car infringement, where he slowed down significantly, forcing Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to accidentally overtake him.
The penalty, served at his last pit stop, handed victory to Norris.
On his 239th attempt, Hulkenberg finally clinched that elusive podium that had escaped the German for over a decade. The Kick Sauber driver climbed from 19th on the grid, on Saturday, to third on Sunday.
Whilst Hulkenberg claimed his maiden podium finish, it now means Hamilton’s run of consecutive podium finishes at the British GP, which spanned back to 2014, comes to an end after the seven-time world champion finished fourth.
