Ogier, after a second-place finish at the Acropolis Rally Greece, will enjoy a brief break from rallying in the WRC before now returning for Finland.

The Toyota driver has previously completed the Finland rally last year and took victory when a sure-win for teammate Kalle Rovanpera was launched off the road by a rogue rock at the penultimate stage.

Ultimately, it launched a title bid for the Frenchman who said he may have ‘no other choice’ but to contend for a ninth title. But this never came to fruition.

He has now confirmed that after Rally Estonia, in a ‘small update’ on social media, that he will be part of the entry list to the Finnish rally.

“My summer will actually not be as free as initially planned,” Ogier said. “Since a little while, I was thinking that doing again rally finland would be something nice, as obviously last year was a great rally for me, with my second win up there.

“So, I mentioned since a while to the team that, yeah, why not maybe adding Rally Finland to the list and try to have fun on these beautiful roads. So yeah, I will be at the start in a bit more than four weeks now, so I’m looking forward to see you there.”

The eight-time world champion has been present in each round since the inaugural Rally Islas Canarias up until Greece, after missing both the Swedish and Kenyan rallies.

Ogier currently sits second in the championship, nine points behind the championship leader and teammate, Elfyn Evans. The French world champion separates the Welshman from Hyundai’s charging Estonian Ott Tanak, who is third.

The full entry list for the Secto Rally Finland is expected to be released tomorrow, on Friday, July 4.
