After leading in Free Practice 2 and 3, Norris seemed like the top contender for pole position at the Red Bull Ring, ahead of the F1 Austrian GP.

The Briton’s strong performance continued into qualifying as the #4 McLaren led the timing sheets during the session. This happened even with a red flag in the middle of the session due to a small fire near the track.

Norris was not really challenged during the final runs. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly spun at the last corner, rotating around as he regained control of his car. This caused problems for those behind him, including Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri.

As such, Norris went on to secure pole by 0.521 seconds ahead of Leclerc and Piastri, who remained third. Whilst Leclerc’s teammate Lewis Hamilton finished fourth.

Verstappen, ultimately, having backed off his final run, finished qualifying down in seventh between Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto, in sixth and eighth, respectively.

The Austrian Grand Prix will get underway at 3pm local time.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
