After a bit of a lull, with no one eager to head straight out onto the Red Bull Ring circuit, the Aston Martins were the first to pull out onto the track after nearly five minutes, with Lance Stroll leading Fernando Alonso.
Norris took an early fast lap as the Briton topped the timing boards with a 1m 5s lap, before pipping it before the halfway point to 1m 4.888s. By the end of the session, the McLaren championship contender remained fastest with a lap time of one minute, 4.324 seconds.
In the later moments, Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar touched the gravel trap on the final corner and sent him into a spin. The Frenchman was able to keep the car on the track as he corrected the spin and apologised for the incident.
How the final hour finished…
Norris, like Free Practice 2, was the fastest driver at the Red Bull Ring after the final six minutes preparing for the important qualifying and race sessions. He was accompanied by his teammate Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in second and third.
Ferrari rounded out the top five, in fourth and fifth, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, respectively.
The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli finished practice inside the top 10, in sixth and seventh, ahead of Stroll, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto, in eighth, ninth and 10th.
Racing Bulls found themselves in the bottom 10 in opposing ends of that spectrum. Liam Lawson was the fastest driver in the lower half of the field, in 11th, whilst Hadjar finished slowest in 20th.
Alonso headed Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg and both Williams drivers, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz, inside the top 15.
This left the Haas duo of Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon to finish in the bottom five, in 16th and 18th, alongside the Alpine pair of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto in 17th and 19th.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
