Verstappen has been in the spotlight recently as the four-time world champion sits on the verge of a race ban, sitting on 11 penalty points of a maximum of 12. If the Dutchman were to get a single point on his licence this weekend, he would be forced to miss out on the British Grand Prix next weekend.

If it were to happen, it would be the second time in the sport’s history that the race ban would be enforced following Kevin Magnussen’s ban last year.

However, it’s safe to say Verstappen is getting fed up with the questions about his points after enduring similar questions last time out in Canada, which he deemed to be ‘childish.’ When asked about his penalty points in the pre-event press conference, Verstappen said:

“You’re joking? Is this like a trap? I’m getting this question every single time, every weekend. I have nothing to add.”

While Verstappen is on the brink of a race ban, if the Dutchman is able to keep himself clean for one more weekend, he will earn himself some breathing space as two of his penalty points will expire at the end of the event.

These points were earned when the world champion had a run-in with Lando Norris at the same event, last year, costing both drivers a chance of winning before the Red Bull driver secured his fourth driver’s title, later that year.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
