Briatore will return to Formula 1 as the team principal of Alpine’s F1 team after it was announced that Oakes has resigned from the position with immediate effect.
Oakes had joined the team last year, replacing Bruno Famin, who had previously replaced Otmar Szafnauer.
In the announcement, the team had confirmed that they had accepted Oakes’ resignation. The team said:
“As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.
“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.”
Alpine confirmed they will not be making any further comment on the matter.
It now means that Briatore would return to the role of team principal, one he had previously held at the Renault team in the 2000’s before being involved with the ‘Crashgate’ scandal, in the 2009 Singapore Grand Prix.
Alpine currently sit ninth out of 10 Formula 1 teams, on seven points – one point ahead of Kick Sauber (10th).

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
