Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, which could be impacted by a local weather front, the sport did something new this weekend: driving in Lego cars.
All 20 cars were sitting in two-seater F1 cars, which were designed in their team liveries, and replaced the usual driver’s parade truck. The drivers would drive the cars around the 5.4km circuit in front of the fans.
Can we PLEASE do this every weekend @F1 and @LEGO_Group? 😭😂

The cars, built by 26 designers, engineers and Lego builders, were based on the LEGO Speed Champions range, which was unveiled last year, celebrating F1’s and Lego Group’s multi-year partnership.
“As a sport synonymous with innovation and pushing boundaries, it was amazing to see another first for our sport as the big builds made their way around the track in the hands of the best drivers in the world,” said F1 Chief Commercial Officer, Emily Prazer.
“Our partnership with the LEGO Group enables us to inject a lot of fun into the Grand Prix experience and engage new audiences, and we can’t wait to see what else we can dream up together.”

These machines took over 22,000 hours to build in LEGO’s Kladno factory, in the Czech Republic.
They are a near 1:1 scale of the actual F1 cars they were built to replicate, made up of nearly 400,000 lego bricks, and weighing 1,000kg. As the cars are drivable, they are capable of reaching 20km/h.
Whilst they were designed around the bespoke designs of the F1 cars, the Lego-made vehicles included everything from sponsor logos to authentic Pirelli tyres.

“At the LEGO Group, we are constantly striving to push the boundaries of what is possible. This latest challenge is a true testament to that, marking an extraordinary collaboration between the LEGO Group, Formula 1 and its 10 teams,” commented Chief Product & Marketing Officer of the LEGO Group, Julia Goldin.
“We know that drivable big builds have an unparalleled ability to evoke excitement amongst fans and are delighted to see the reaction unveiling 10 at the same time has brought.
“We hope these unique creations reinforce that with imagination and a LEGO brick in-hand; creativity has limitless possibilities.”
The special event is not expected to be a one-off, with the sport claiming it will be ‘the first of many memorable moments for families’ this year.
F1 confirms the 10 LEGO ‘big builds’ will go on a ‘global tour’ with appearances set at future races.
