Piastri lead dominant McLaren 1-2 at F1 Miami GP

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has taken the victory at the Miami Grand Prix, leading a dominant 1-2 finish from the Woking-based team.

Despite starting the race in third place, after a less-than-optimal qualifying for Piastri, the championship leader has taken his sixth career victory at the Miami Grand Prix.

It marks Piastri’s fourth victory of the 2025 season, extending his championship victory to 131 points and the Australian now holds a 16-point lead over his teammate Lando Norris.

Following a 1-2 finish in both the sprint and grand prix, it means McLaren will leave Miami with maximum points on the board, with Piastri leading Norris.

Norris had completed a recovery drive to second place, having dropped from second to sixth in the second corner, as he took evasive action to avoid Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

In the end, the two McLarens dominated the race and never looked to be under threat once they both passed Verstappen, even during the Virtual Safety Car interventions.

The duo finished the race over 30 seconds from Mercedes’ George Russell, who had enjoyed a cheap pit stop, when Haas’ Oliver Bearman retired.

In the end, McLaren extended their championship lead to 246 points, more than 100 points ahead of second-placed Mercedes, who remain second with 141 points.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
