The FIA has confirmed that there is a possibility that the race could be suspended due to the risk of lightning strikes at, or around, the circuit during the Miami GP.

This follows local safety standards, which will result in the suspension of the race.

Currently, according to the National Weather Service, there is a ‘severe thunderstorm warning’ in effect and will remain in place until 2:30pm. There is also a possibility for heavy rainfall and a thunderstorm after 5pm, one hour after lights out local time.

As such, the Stewards have exercised their power and decided that if this matter were to come to fruition, the Stewards have laid out instructions if the order to ‘shelter in place’ is enacted.

They have confirmed if the race is suspended, the cars will return to the fast lane of the pit lane before being returned to their garages, and out of the bad weather. The team’s garages will be instructed to remain open until stated otherwise.

When the race director is happy for the session to resume, the restart order will be published no less than 18 minutes before the expected restart time.

Following this, each team will be instructed, in turn, to push their cars into the fast lane and allow the cars to be arranged into the restart car order.

When the cars have returned to the grid, or the end of the pit lane, the starting procedure will begine at the 10 minute signal.
