Verstappen pips Norris and Antonelli to Miami GP pole position
3rd May 2025Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing, has claimed pole position for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, beating McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli.

Following a less-than-optimal sprint race, where the four-time world champion finished at the bottom of the order thanks to a 10-second penalty, the world champion is back on top.
Verstappen has now secured his 43rd career pole position, making it back-to-back poles from Saudi Arabia, last time out.
He has also become the fastest driver around the Miami International Autodrome, having taken two consecutive pole positions at the event previously, in 2024 and 2025.
Whilst the reigning world champion will enjoy his second pole position in a row, Verstappen will be joined by another McLaren driver, his closest 2024 title rival, Lando Norris will start second.
Antonelli was not able to replicate the surprise of sprint qualifying in the main event qualifying session, but the 18-year-old still put in a lap time to separate the two McLarens.
Now, the Sprint Polesitter will start on the second row behind the two championship contenders, Verstappen and Norris.
The Drivers’ Championship leader, Oscar Piastri, could only best fourth place and will join Antonelli on the second row, just behind his closest championship rivals.
