After a delay to proceedings, thanks to pre-race rain, Norris sealed victory when he led the pack across the finish line under safety car conditions.
Piastri had led for the majority of the race, having snatched the lead away from pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli into the first corner ,but the race lead fell away from him as the safety car came out.
Norris was in second place, behind Piastri, as the conditions transitioned from wet-weather tyres to slicks. Piastri took the first stop, leaving Norris to lead the race. However, as Norris entered the pits, Alonso and Lawson collided and prompted the safety car. The Briton returned to the track in the lead.
There was not enough time left in the race to clear away the debris, which meant the safety car led the pack to the chequered flag.
Norris claimed victory, from third on the grid, ahead of Piastri and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who pitted early and benefited from the early stop.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had held onto third place before the stops, but was slapped with a 10-second time penalty for an unsafe release and crashed into Antonelli.
The polesitter finished the race in 10th, whereas Verstappen dropped to 17th after his penalty.
